Beauty tips for men... yeah!!

Yes I know, roll your eyes, smirk and continue flipping through the magazine. No one really uses the words “beauty tips” and “men” in the same sentence do they? But what many of you men out there may not have realized is that this topic is no longer as taboo as it was a little while ago.

Today more and more men are expressing an interest in fashion, facial cleansers, manicures and gasp! even waxing! Times are indeed changing. So if your ritual grooming techniques doesn’t get further than a shower, shave and the monthly haircut, why not try out a few of these tips, guaranteed to turn a few heads!

Let’s concentrate for now on the first thing that people see about you…your face! The skin is the most important element of a great looking face.

Generally, men tend to have oilier skin than women with considerably larger pores, which means their skin gets dirtier faster. Therefore it is important to pay attention to cleansing. You must, yes must, clean your face every day. Deep cleansing is also especially vital, it keeps your pores clear, your skin healthy and looking good.

For those looking for a natural approach; wherever possible, choose chemical-free cleansing products or a natural scrub. These will help to remove dead skin cells and smooth the surface of your face. Products with harsh chemical ingredients may irritate the skin and clog pores. Be also aware of harsh scrubs, with ingredients like nut and seed extracts, as they tend to tear or damage the skin.

The next step after cleansing is moisturizing. It is essential not only after cleansing but after shaving, especially around the neck area. Again it is best to pick products with fewer chemical additives, and preferably with Vitamin E or aloe vera.
Don’t loose your nerve now, it seems like a lot but you will get very used to a routine.

Next is Toning. Ok so this word might be a bit foreign to you but toner is extremely useful in preventing skin damage due to ultra violet radiation from the sun and harsh pollutants. It will also help to retain the skin’s suppleness, reducing the size of pores as well as avoiding ingrown hairs.

Now don’t go and pick up the first thing that you lay your eyes on, or continue using the same old aftershave that you have gotten for the last 5 Christmases! Look for an aftershave that does not contain alcohol (it dries the skin). Instead, ask for a brand that contains a mixture of honey with dhania seeds or orange flower water, fruits and vegetables. These natural products contain anti-oxidants and will help to retard skin damage and aging.

Now you should be on your way to a great face! It may take a little getting used to but soon it will be second nature. You’ll begin to see the results probably in about a week or two if you are diligent enough. Don’t be alarmed if you find that very shortly after you start cleansing properly that you get more spots or you face oil balance changes. This is simply because you are finally allowing all the deep down gunk that has been there forever to surface and soon you will be getting rid of it properly on a daily basis!

“If a man has talent and cannot use it, he has failed.
If he has talent and uses only part of it, he has partly failed.
If he has talent and learns somehow to use the whole of it - he has gloriously succeeded, and won a satisfaction and triumph few men ever know.”

Thomas Wolfe 1900 - 1938
