Because I’m worth it!

When we represent a baby model it is essential we put them forward with the most current and up to date shots as possible. From the moment a baby is born they are constantly changing and sometimes it is difficult to capture this on camera. As a model co-ordinator I am often asked ‘How do I get the best pictures of my baby?’, How do I get them to smile? etc, here are some helpful hints to help you get the best shot of your baby!

When photographing babies, think soft. Soft light, soft colors, soft textures. These things allow the importance of the photograph to be focused on the child, not on cluttered or dark backgrounds which will then distract the client’s eyes from your baby.

Find a soft source of light to photograph your baby, perhaps by a window or the shade of a patio, outdoors is definitely the best. To get the best light take the photograph in the morning or late afternoon, remember if the sun is too bright your baby will be squinting and this is not what we want.

Ensure that you are photographing your baby at a convenient time to the baby’s routine. We want smiley shots, so don’t photograph him/her if they are tired or just about to have a feed. To a client a smiley baby will look easier to work with and shows that they are happy infront of the camera, this will be a big advantage to them in the selection process.

Make sure you regularly up date your baby’s photographs, they are changing all the time and when they are selected for an assignment the client will want them to turn up looking just as they did in the photograph.

Spring is in the air...

...and its time to take a look at yourself and your wardrobe. Some items are OK from the year before and you can add few accessories to tie them in to this year’s fashion or colours.

Always bear in mind, which colours suit you best and you will find that when friends pass comments they are commenting on how good you look and not how good your clothes look. It’s no good spending a small fortune on an outfit if the shape or colour does nothing for you. The right colour top will make you look glowing in health, but the wrong colour can make you look very sickly. Try standing in natural daylight and use different coloured scarves draped round you, see which colours reflect best and which ones drain you.

The fashions you can wear in your 20’s are fun but as you get older they need to be adjusted slightly in order to still make you look great. You will develop a style of your own which can easily incorporate today’s fashion with your own style.

The same thing applies to your hair, always go for a style that suits you and flatters your face and not necessarily the style that is in fashion. Take advice from a good hairdresser as they are dealing with different styles every day and are well qualified to say what would suit you face shape and hair type.

Make up also needs to be updated as it is very easy to get in a rut and stick to the same style for years and this can be very dating. Beauty counters in the large stores are always doing promotions and offering to do beauty makeovers. Take them up on it to see what they feel would best update your beauty regime. Remember to always use a good moisturiser as this will pay off as your skin ages.

Clothes, hair and make-up should be fun get your style right for you and you will feel and look more confident.
