What makes a good model?

In every day life we see models on leaflets, in magazines, catalogues and on the television. We seem to forget that all people used in commercial advertising come from a modelling agency.

There tends to be a very stereotypical view on what models should look like i.e., 18, 6ft and size 6-8, this is not the case, they are a very small minority! Everyday clothing companies and high street stores are targeting their products at average, every day people like you and me. Therefore the industry needs models that are going to attract the type of audience that would be interested in the product the company is trying to sell.

Here, at Models Direct®, we get requests for all sorts of types of looks, sizes and ages for photographic, fashion and promotional work. Whether it's for a plus size clothing range; a new baby car seat; or promoting the opening of a club, bar, restaurant we have heard it all!

The industry is very competitive so to ensure you have the best chance of being selected you need to work with your agency.

Self promotion is always important. Any experience you can gain will help and you can use test shots to build a portfolio. It is very important to make sure the photographs being used to represent you are the best they can be. You don't need to spend £100's on professional pictures, but do take time and put effort in to get good, clear shots. Stay in contact with your agency. By doing this you are increasing your chances of getting selected and keeping yourself in the forefront of your agents mind!
Teeny Toddler Trends

T-Shirts are a must have item for the summer
Girls' T-shirts are lacy and sweet, covered with 60's peace symbols, or musical motifs. Wear them with tiered skirts, denim minis or embroidered jeans.

If you fancy a dress on your little one, it'll be an A-line design in a happy floral print.

Boys' T-shirts are rock & roll friendly, covered in peace symbols or alive with friendly animal motifs. Try a striped or retro printed short-sleeved shirt and cargo shorts as summer formal wear.
Colours -Soft pinks and melon tones look fresh on sportswear and swimwear.

Pair sky with deeper blue tones for a refreshing dip in the drink. Navy and white always looks classically elegant. For a new take on nautical, switch navy for red.

Fab Prints - 60's: Tie-dyed looks, peace symbols and doves, batik designs, rock & roll looks, rock stars: If it reminds you of Woodstock - it's fab.

Florals never lose their appeal. For spring and summer feminine florals bloom on sportswear; brighter graphic flowered motifs enliven swimsuits.

If you've got something to say, wear it! T-shirts with slogans are popular for girls and boys - Why not print your own? It's a zoo out there with photographic animals and simple beast motifs printed on everything from tees to sundresses.

Have a groovy summer and let's see those results!
