| Accessorise your wardrobe this Summer… |
| Ever since designers cottoned onto the fact that accessory lines make money, we've been offered bags, shoes, belts, shades and jewellery galore each season. But who's complaining? There are loads to choose from. Confused..? No need to panic - see our guide for your hottest Summer trend yet! Shoes should be the focus of your look this season. Platforms and stack heels are real statement designs that are also extremely flattering. Don't be afraid to go brightly coloured or highly patterned. High wedges and platforms are huge this Summer - fantastic with mostly anything. Jewelled, canvas, leather, it doesn't matter. They give you that fabulous height and confidence (as long as you can keep your balance!) Originated in the 60's, this shoe style keeps returning every few years and each year we see something new to team it with. Flip flops are always going to be a winner… cheap, cheerful and there are so many hundreds of styles you will always find a pair to match an outfit! Bags - This Summer think big, then double it. The big names have been designing with the 'everything but the kitchen sink' philosophy firmly in mind. |
Leather multi-zip bags are very retro, if slightly impractical! Oversized bags with retro tennis-racket holder motif could easily double as a weekend bag - and handy for storing everything and anything for the beach. Sunglasses - Don't even think about aviators this season! Graduated lenses, oversized frames, and '70s inspired colours (browns, ambers, maroons and olives) are all set to dazzle this summer. Inaugural sunnies collection is a total winner, and bug-eyed white plastic sunglasses will definitely get you noticed. The high street is dotted with these type of fashions - keep your eyes peeled! Belt up, breathe in and buckle up. A continuation of last season - mostly wide belts with lots of interesting detail. Oversized buckle belts are a real focus piece, as are corset buckles, but you can also be more subtle in your approach. A thinner, nautical knotted belt or a simple narrow hand-embroidered cotton belt will make an equally stylish impression. Jewellery - After a very quiet autumn/winter on the jewellery front, expect quiet opulence this season. Although there's an argument for |
wearing no jewellery at all (this season's statement shoes, bags and belts make quite enough of an impression!), multiple long delicate necklaces in tasteful golds and natural materials, shell and stone pendants, all longer dropped than usual can look stunning against a crisp shirt or simple dress.
African-inspired chunky wooden bangles, covered oversized beads, and tortoiseshell details also make their mark. Wear with slouchy city shorts and canvas jacket as part of your nod to the safari trend. |
| Summer dresses for 2006 |
| Coming into the summer months, to look feminine and sophisticated you can't go wrong with a summer dress. You’ll stay cool and comfortable in the heat and look your best too! A good summer dress is a very useful item to invest in and can be worn on many different occasions. Accessoriesing a dress to create a smarter look, or simply dress it down for a more casual event. • Curvy women should choose fifties inspired shapes with flared skirts that are loose over the hips. • Wrap dresses are also just as good for a curvaceous figure (wear a thin vest underneath if you are worried about revealing too much). • For small-busted women use bows, frills and ruching to give added volume. |
• Big prints are for large and curvy bodies, small prints for thin or petite bodies and standard shapes can wear what they please. • Don't be afraid to wear a contrasting slim-line vest underneath your chosen dress to hide away bra straps and give it a 'very now,' layered look. • Invest in a dress that will give you maximum return by asking yourself how many ways you can wear it. • Choose designs that give you plenty of versatility. • Kaftan styles are superbly flattering giving volume to small frames and loose floaty femininity to curvy and broad frames. They are this season's summer look too, so buy in bright colours and wear to death with large beads. |
