How does my child get selected for modelling work?

Published: 13th Mar 2024

It can be a little frustrating for parents who know their children are awesome. They can see it every day, from the way they conduct themselves at school and at home, to the way they interact with other people, including adults. Parents can praise their children through rose-tinted glasses, though in all honesty the children probably are exceptionally well-behaved and have the talents that are sure to blossom when they approach adulthood.

So, why don’t all children get chosen for modelling work when they’re registered with us? Can’t all our clients see exactly what parents see in their children? Surely all children in the right location with the right looks and features and bursting with enthusiasm should get noticed by big brands everywhere? Like we admit, it can be frustrating for parents of prospective modelling children – not least the children themselves.

We encourage any talent to look into modelling, regardless of their age. Prospective models under the age of 18 must be registered by parents, guardians or responsible adult. Successes and failures are shared by a whole family, so the anticipation of securing modelling work is felt by more than the young model alone.

Apply to be a model

All models and parents must clearly know the selection procedure. It’s a process that we feel is the most effective. Our clients think so, too, and it has remained this way for decades.

1. The first step for a child to be offered modelling work is for parents to conduct a little research about the commercial modelling industry and how we generally operate. We are easily contactable and very open to any enquiry. Please do not automatically assume your child will adapt to modelling simply because you think they may have the desirable image. Appearance is important, but so too is the application and commitment of models.

2. The second step is then to sign up with us, complete with two clear head shots of your child / children. Parents need to do this on behalf of their child (if they are under 18 years of age).

3. One of our professional coordinators in our booking team will then contact you. They will then discuss with you how we wokr and also get details about your child, their personality and if they have any experience.

4. As we receive new requests for models from our clients, we’ll go through suitable portfolios. The information we shift through includes geographical location, gender, age and looks. Our team will then create a shortlist of models we think will appeal to our client for that particular job.

5. We’ll then contact the shortlisted models to check their availability. After this, we’ll pass on the model’s details to the client.

6. The penultimate stage is for our client to choose which model / s they’d like for their campaign. This is worth reiterating: our clients choose models, not us.

7. The final stage: we contact the chosen models with the good news. If they still wish to accept the job, we give them the necessary information, including location, client contacts and pay. At any stage prior to the job, we’re here to help and advise models and parents. Models can refuse a job, of course, and if this is the case, we’ll continue putting suitable models forward for more jobs.

Signing up with an agency guarantees a model’s application will be treated with the respect it deserves. Without models or clients there wouldn’t be the shared success we’ve enjoyed since 1990.

Don’t be too disheartened if your child hasn’t be selected for a short time since registering. Modelling is extremely competitive, but your child is in the right hands.

Success can take time and a little persistence, although numerous first-time models have been chosen by clients just weeks or even days since applying with us.

Keep the faith.
