When we refer to “commercial modelling”, we mean that modelling talent is used in advertising campaigns to appeal to the public. All the models used are “real people”, and that’s the core of a modelling assignment’s impact. Our clients know that using real models really does pay off, and they’ll continue to come to us as their preferred source of gifted commercial models.

The term “commercial models” is accurate. However, there are so many layers to commercial modelling that thousands of people can explore – and perhaps they didn’t even know existed. These are the niche jobs that we’ll explain in this blog.

“Niche” usually signifies a specialised sector or part of a bigger product / service. Just as niche films attract non-mainstream audiences, niche modelling is for markets that require a specialised skill or unique features.

We applaud both niche and non-niche models. We know that commercial modelling is highly sought-after for both global clients and much smaller ones. We don’t favour either, but there is an evident difference between a general commercial model and a niche commercial model. Let’s explore some modelling options that could benefit models in niche markets.

Distinctive body art. This is always something that plenty of our clients are on the lookout for. Tattoos are personal. They are a reminder of important times in their life, and people love to display them at every opportunity. Models with tattoos can be used in almost any assignment, but sometimes they are specifically requested, and this is why body art can be used in niche markets. So, if you rock a range of eye-catching body art, you could be snapped up by our clients – but only if you’ve registered with us.

We’ve been championing plus size modelling for many years. Just like tattoos, the popularity of plus size models has risen in commercial campaigns in all forms of media. It’s important to illustrate diversity in all models, as they reflect the collective national population. Though plus size models are still seen as niche, they signify a significant portion of client’s customer base, and their appeal is increasing every year.

We are asked for petite models, too, and, like plus size models, they have their place in niche markets. Petite models are indispensable for modelling specific fashion sizes. Any model of any size can help clients in commercial modelling shoots, but a precise size and shape is often needed depending on what the client is marketing.

Body part modelling is a niche type that is often overlooked. We see examples of body part modelling almost every day. From shampoo commercials and campaigns advertising shoes to full-page watch adverts in glossy magazines, models with exceptional body parts contribute to a surprisingly high numbers of modelling gigs. All sorts of brands want models with lush flowing locks, or those with exquisitely manicured nails. Paying attention to the specifics can pay off!
