Children make wonderful commercial models, don’t they? Whether it’s a twinkle in a cherub’s eye or healthy rosy cheeks, (very young) youngsters immediately capture everyone’s hearts in a variety of adverts and marketing campaigns.
Which is precisely why our superstar children and babies are so much in demand – and have been for decades. Almost any of our 1,000+ clients will require very young or aspiring commercials at some time, so the question to parents is: are your little stars ready?
Brands all over the world treat child models a little differently to adult ones. Whilst we know from our reviews that all our chosen models of any age love their Models Direct assignments, child models often rely on parents and guardians to relate their modelling experiences.

Take Alicia’s mum, Bianca, for instance, who recently said of her young daughter’s photoshoot with Babies R Us: “Alicia did really well. She was smiling and waving at the camera. She was fussed over a lot. The photos came out really well and Alicia was able to easily pose for the shots that requested of her.”
Youngsters indeed need to be fussed over, and they need to be encouraged. Human nature dictates that babies and toddlers often require coaxing – and praising – more than older models, so their preparation for modelling jobs will usually be different from, say, teenagers and adults.
So, how can doting parents be confident their young daughters and sons are ready for action in front of the cameras?
Assuming that parents have read what we need for their child’s application, we have some hints and tips to increase the chances of them being recognised by our clients, who are the decision makers. Our job is to read our client’s job descriptions and put forward the best-suited models for their campaigns, but we do not choose the successful models – please bear that in mind.
First, it’s vital to make sure your child’s Models Direct portfolio is working. We’ll give you the details once registered, but if you have trouble signing in or uploading photos, please get in touch. The portfolio is the single most important tool in showing our clients what our models can offer – from unique features, classic poses or eye-catching reels, the portfolio is a personal tool which should be used regularly to wow the brands we work with. Babies and children are no different to adult models and, in fact, there is more opportunity for parents to fill their child’s portfolio with relevant and up-to-date photos.
Second, the greater range of phots in your child’s portfolio, the better. Children and babies constantly evolve, and adding new photos in them in a variety of clothing and with them displaying a range of facial expressions is exactly what our clients are looking for.

Third, remember that we’ve given thousands of opportunities in the form of family modelling jobs; not all the jobs we offer require single models!

Children ands babies love to be involved in family activities and days out. Try to take photos when they’re at their most comfortable. Most of our clients are looking for happy little stars, so upload their portfolios whenever that perfect photo is taken.
Be certain that babies and children like being around people. They work with professionals on set and, even though parents are required to be present, a content, confident young model really does help the modelling process.
