We see seasonal changes and trends in everyday life, even if we may take them for granted. Most retail brands will plan months ahead of a season or specific time of the year to implement their marketing strategies, because timing is crucial. Even being a few days’ too late can affect their business, so when to prepare for different seasons is a key part for a successful business.

As consumers, we are bombarded with seasonal updates, special offers and great deals on products and services throughout the year. Many of these will correlate to seasons. Examples include:

  • Reduced prices on summer wear in the autumn months.
  • Special deals on winter clothes in the lead-up to Christmas – and more in the January sales when the Christmas rush is over and retailers look to clear their stock (but still make profits, naturally).
  • Better deals on alcohol in shops to bridge the gap throughout “Dry January”.
  • Cheaper flights and holiday packages during “off peak” times.

The more obvious times of the year for selling more goods and services include:

  • November and most of December – for Christmas, which can make or break some smaller (and larger) businesses.
  • Late spring holiday deals in time for the middle of summer.
  • Hotel and B&B packages for summer.
  • Flowers, cards, chocolates and miscellaneous gifts ahead of Mother’s Day.
  • Chocolate at Easter.
  • School uniforms / equipment ahead of the new school year.

What does this mean to commercial models? We’ve always stressed that there are plenty of opportunities for Models Direct models throughout the year, but we also know that some months are particularly busier than others.

It means that some models might be more in demand at certain times of the year. Opportunities do change throughout the year depending on what businesses are trying to promote. We wouldn’t have a lot of demand for our models modelling summer wear in the winter, nor would we receive requests for promotional models working at a Christmas grotto in April.

Yes, opportunities do change seasonally, as the evidence would suggest. But there is still plenty of work available to our models all year round.
