The issues faced by women going through the menopause have increasingly been highlighted by celebrities and health organisations in recent times.

Holland & Barrett has been at the heart of the campaigning and, when it wanted to go one step further, it reached out to Models Direct.

Following research revealing 51 per cent of women from black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds said current advice was not representative, the health and wellness retailer asked us for some suitable female models.

With a history reaching back over 35 years, Models Direct has always been an extremely diverse employment agency.

We have men, women and children of all races, nationalities, skin colours, cultures and religions on our books.

So we were eager to help out.

As part of its Every Menopause Matters campaign work, Holland & Barrett decided to create support ads in Urdu, Punjabi, Gujarati and Hindi.

It also became the first retailer to launch a free, multi-language menopause online consultation service, with trained advisors offering guidance and symptom support in multiple languages.

To help promote the campaign and alert the general public to the service, the retailer required female models of different backgrounds to step out in front of the camera.

And with such a diverse spectrum of models on our books, this wasn’t, of course, a problem for us.

From our shortlist, Holland & Barrett selected Malikah and Shipra.

The models both accepted the assignment and told us afterwards how much they enjoyed it.

Malikah said:

“The shoot was an amazing experience.

“We took pictures outside the Holland & Barrett’s store, while enjoying the sunshine with the team.

“They were extremely welcoming and supportive.

“It was better than I imagined, and I felt very comfortable working with them.

“Overall, it was magnificent.”

Shipra agreed, reporting back:

“I am so happy to have signed up with Models Direct.

“I had another photoshoot with Holland & Barrett for its menopause campaign.

“I had a lovely time shooting with the brilliant, knowledgeable entrepreneur Meera Bhogal and motivational speaker Michelle.

“The crew team members, Chloe and James, were fun to work with.

“I look forward to working on many more upcoming projects.
