How to continue modelling with today’s situation

Published: 29th Apr 2020

Sadly the last few months have seen an evil virus come into our world, which has affected everyone physically and emotionally. However, this should not stop you from continuing modelling. If you have a modelling job coming up in the next few days or weeks, you need to make sure you’re prepared and have the correct measures in place.

  1. The location of the shoot – you need to make sure its safe for you, for example, if you are having a photoshoot in a busy environment, I would suggest requesting a change of date, as you do not want to risk your health. If the photoshoot is in a studio with 2 other people, you should be fine…as long as everything is clean and has been disinfected. Most photographers will have already contacted you if you felt the location of the shoot is too much of a risk of catching the virus.

Models are now being booked to boost the Corona Virus campaign

  2. Washing Hands  – This is of course the most important thing. Of course even before the virus came about, we all kept clean. However, with today’s virus we have to ensure we are taking precautions seriously. This includes washing your hands as much as possible (while singing happy birthday twice or just counting to 20), I know this might seem over the top but bacteria is absolutely everywhere and we do not want to spread this virus more than it already has. Also, its good to carry hand sanitizer or hand wipes in your bag for when you’re out and not able to wash your hands.
  3. Clothes – After going out and coming home, make sure you put your clothes you have been wearing in the laundry basket. Bacteria can be transferred onto your clothes. To prevent bringing it into your home, just as soon as you come home put your clothes into the laundry basket and get into your comfys.
  4. Clean clean clean – So, open the cleaning cupboard at home and get out the Dettol or any other anti-bacteria sprays or wipes and start to wipe down all the handles, door knobs, kitchen worktops, tables, your car handles and steering wheel. Anything you touch in your day-to-day life. This is to prevent picking up and transferring any germs/bacteria. You can get Dettol wipes that you can bring with you on your shoot, so you are able to wipe down any surfaces or props you may touch.
  5. Social distancing – They are saying to keep at least two metres away from each other. You can still talk to others… just don’t shake hands or hug.
  6. Don’t stress or worry – Don’t let this get in your way. Don’t worry or stress about catching this virus. As long as you take precautions and follow steps 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5, you will be fine.

“My first modelling job was very last minute, to feature in a Corona virus advert by the Scottish Government. Even though it was short notice, the member of staff at Models Direct (Charlie) was really friendly and helped me through everything” – Andrew

If your shoot hasn’t been cancelled and you are more than happy to proceed with the shoot, then have fun, get out there and show them that nothing can stop you from doing what you do best!!
