Summer – time to refresh your ePortfolio!

Published: 16th Jul 2021

Sometimes you just have to take a long, hard look at something before realising it’s time for an update…

We’ve all been there, haven’t we? How long has that dress been on the hanger, collecting more dust than a Dyson? Perhaps you’ve been thinking about buying some new socks for months, only to persevere with wearing odd pairs with holes. Yuck! Procrastination is something we all succumb to, whatever our best intentions.

So it’s time to say goodbye to hesitation, to ditch dithering and say farewell to dawdling! Summer is the season for action! And for models, this could start with refreshing your portfolio. There’s really no excuse for making do with out-of-date images, and for not revising any modelling experience you’ve enjoyed. Any information – no matter how trivial it sounds – is beneficial for you, us, and our clients.

Nature dictates that our looks and features change, so it’s common sense to keep your portfolio as current as possible. Because we have hundreds of clients requiring diverse talent, keeping your portfolio fresh can really make you stand out from the rest of the pack.

Think of your portfolio as a CV – although a portfolio is far more creative and is an opportunity for models to display their own individual talents. Whilst modelling is enjoyable, models should never forget that professionalism and dedication is often the key to unlocking many assignments and photo shoots. Portfolios should evolve and inform, presenting models in the best light for us and our clients. Why should models focus especially on summer as the time to refresh a portfolio? It’s all about supply and demand – and competition. When we place models on assignments, they invariably get along together and many become firm friends. But – and allow us to be brutal for a minute! – models do compete for the same modelling prize, and any outdated portfolios will only go against applicants.

Summer is the busiest time of the year for modelling agencies, so it stands to reason models should make sure their portfolio is attractive to potential clients. Summer is the time of the year when people feel invigorated and when the sun shines – go with the happy vibes and take the first step to recharge your portfolio!

Portfolio updates can include any number of improvements. If you’ve changed your style, your portfolio should reflect it! Hairstyles, body piercings, tattoos…a lot of our clients look for quirky features, and models shouldn’t be shy to show them off! Study your present photos, and ascertain whether they should be clearer, brighter or taken at a better angle. Note: we don’t ask for professional photos, but we do insist they are bright and accurately reflect you. https://www.modelsdirect.com/help-advice/modelling-tips/submitting-photos-to-models-direct

Portfolios are in a model’s own hands. Do yourself a favour and give yourself the best chance of wowing the clients with an up-to-date portfolio.

Now that you’ve finished reading this blog, why not start right now? Out with the old, in with the new. Procrastination is such an awful word, right?
