Switch on the television, open a magazine or glance at advertising hoardings as you pass through cities and towns…

The odds are you will see the smiling faces of mature models promoting products and services that older generations might be interested in.
Furthermore, if you are in your 40s, 50s, 60s or upwards yourself, you are likely to scroll through social media posts or click on news stories and websites, where you also see older men and women modelling clothes, demonstrating items and fronting campaigns.
So who are these mature models?
Well, quite simply, they are people like you or me – or perhaps your parents or your grandparents.
They are everyday people with a keen interest in doing something different, meeting new people and earning a little extra money.

As a leading national agency, Models Direct experiences high demand for the older models on its books.
This is because the companies, organisations and brands that make up our client base are becoming increasingly aware of the grey pound.
Those in their later years are not happy to sit at home with their slippers on – they want to enjoy exciting holidays, buy delicious meals and splash out on special clothes from time to time.
Some of them have money to spend and advertisers are keen to entice them.
Male and female models in their older years do not need previous experience but to maximise their chances of being offered work they should do all they can to help themselves stand out.
So here is our guide to doing just that:
1. Ask a friend or family member to take a great set of modelling photos for you. These should do their best to highlight your unique personality and individual character. Have fun while snapping so we gain a true sense of who you really are.
2. Send us one or two of these photos with your application form. If you do end up joining us then they can also be used on your secure e-portfolio, which we and our clients look at whenever a model like you is required for a particular job.
3. While don’t need to have modelling experience to apply, please do tell us about yourself. Have you ever done anything you think might be applicable to modelling – any acting, singing, dancing, for example? Do you have any other skills or hobbies that would give us insight into your personality?
4. Ensure you update the photos on your e-portfolio regularly. This not only reassures us that we are kept informed if you change your look in any way but also shows that you are a dedicated and reliable member of our team.
5. Also update your portfolio when you carry out modelling (or other relevant work) through us or anyone else.
6. When you attend any bookings through us, ensure you arrive promptly, dressed as requested and with any props you have been asked to bring. Make sure you know when you will be required on set and where you need to go.
7. Chat to other models and members of the crew on the day. Networking can lead to more work in the future and being friendly, sociable and easy to work with can lead to requests from clients for additional or follow-up shoots.
We ask all our mature models to give us their feedback after each job.
This helps us to ensure we are providing the best possible service to our models and clients and also gives other older people an idea of what working with us is really like.

For example, this is what Anthony told us after taking part in an assignment with national brewery and pub chain Greene King:
“As this was my first assignment, I did not know what to expect.
“But I was made very welcome by the other models and film crew as I am somewhat older.
“It is amazing what goes into any filming to get it just right.
“Many thanks.
“I am now a wiser old man!”
If you are also a mature person and would like to find out more about modelling with us, please fill in our form, upload some images and wait for us to get in touch.
One of our friendly team members will call you to discuss working with us and answer any of your questions.
