Modelling and sport

We’re a sports mad country, aren’t we?

Just when the 2021 Rugby League World Cup was in full throttle – which was delayed by a year due to…well, you know what – sports fans salivated at the prospect of the FIFA World Cup last November & December. Then we had the Australian Open, plenty of darts on TV, England playing Test matches in New Zealand, plenty of snooker tournaments for armchair aficionados, and the super competitive Six Nations. That’s most of the major sports events, but please prompt us if we’ve forgotten any…

Which brings us to the abundance of sports-themed opportunities for models. Sport is pretty much in the spotlight all-year-round, so we’re constantly receiving requests for all kinds of sporty assignments.

They could be for our young stars pulling on cute little jerseys for a major footie club, or for commercial models to star alongside household names, like Greene King’s recent promotion starring the imposing but ultra-friendly James Haskell.

Neither required our models to be tip-top shape or possess an encyclopaedic sporting knowledge, which highlights that most models with the right looks and confidence can excel in commercial modelling. Back of the net!

What if you’re a parent and think your child is perfect for sporting advertising assignments? No obstacles there. Take the McDonald’s healthy eating campaign that took place in Dorset featuring Harry Redknapp. The world famous fast food chain were looking for eager beavers in the form of four youngsters, and we were happy to oblige. Being the decent chap he is, Mr Redknapp probably would’ve travelled much further for the shoot, although as he lives in Dorset, he didn’t have to! Check it out here.

Returning to grass roots sport, the recent cricket promotion in conjunction with major brewery was well received, and didn’t leave our five models in a spin. Did they rub shoulders with cricketing superstars? You bet they did. See the order of play here

For more hands-on sporting work, job requests frequently crop up for toned, fit and energetic models. Think ads for sports nutrition brands, gyms equipment and athletic clothing. If you fit the bill, we look forward to receiving your application.

Don’t consider yourself an avid sports nut? It really doesn’t matter in many of our sports-themed models roles, because our clients are looking for best-fits for their marketing purposes. You’ll need professionalism and commitment, but a love of sport isn’t essential.
What do our models say? Here’s one of our male models, Gabor, with feedback on his Greene King / Six Nations rugby job: “I just love to work with you! ♡ This was my second Models Direct project – it was for a Greene King commercial for the Six Nations Rugby Championship. Now they wanted me to be in the spotlight, as the first time I worked in the background. It’s great to be part of the making process which other people can only imagine – unless they spied on us from outside through the front windows of the pub! Very inspiring to contribute and make things great! Especially because Models Direct take care of the kind of ethics and equality I mentioned above. Thank you again for the day.”

With summer finally here, there may be even more sports jobs for models of all ages, sizes and shapes. But fear not if you’re not ready – the autumn and winter brings with it plenty of sporty little numbers, so be prepared!
