The White Decision – Light and Airy for Summer

Published: 13th May 2020

As summer approaches and our thoughts turn to spending more time outside, if possible, we might also like to bring a breezy touch to our homes.

Those in the modelling business know only too well how significant white can be in the world of fashion but it has also become an important 2020 interior design trend.

And this summer it is set to be bigger than ever.

The beauty of white is that it brings a breath of fresh air to any home and makes any space feel much larger and more open.

It can be brought into a room in small accents to have a gentle lightening effect or it can be used with abundance to completely transform a space.

Off-white, antique-white, vanilla and all the other many shades of white remain a popular choice for those redecorating or choosing new pieces to bring into a space.

Not only do white shades blend with most existing backgrounds but you know that further down the line you can comfortably set it against new splashes of colour.

Add generously, it can bring a timeless quality to a room or even a whole home.

Dropped in here or there, it can lighten, brighten and complement almost any pattern, texture and overall interior design.

Top tips for using white in the home:

*For a dramatic look, paint walls and ceilings in white then make a bold statement with carefully selected items of furniture in strong colour or even black.

*Let photographs, wall hangings and works of art really speak for themselves against a white background.

*Set light blues, greens and yellows against a white background to give a room a subtle and summery seaside feel.

*Make the most of leafy and architectural house plants, as well as colourful flowers by arranging them within white rooms.

*Paint floorboards white to bring a shabby chic style to a space.

*Bring white bedding into a bedroom to create a sense of calm and sanctuary.

*Use white voile at the window or cotton drapes to give a whole room an airy feel.

*Add white plantation shutters to a room to create a New England look.

Once you’re happy with your new look, why not get some photos taken at home, practise new styles and modelling poses and send in your pics – we’d love to see them!
