Question: Do you need experience to become a model?
Answer: No.
Modelling is probably one of the very few professions that does not require applicants to have previous experience. We know how volatile the job market currently is, and then to expect people to have experience on top of that makes securing a job particularly challenging.
Models Direct has many first-time models – baby, child, teen and adult models – who come through the doors, and they’ve enjoyed great experiences. It’s great to see how they’ve flourished and developed their interpersonal skills along the way, such as communication and team building.
They’ve adapted dynamically according to our clients’ needs, enabling them to fulfil the modelling job successfully whilst simultaneously networking and building their presence in the modelling industry. Not only this, but they have been paid for their skills, earning a great paycheck at the end of the experience.
If you don’t need experience, then what are clients on the lookout for in a model?
Great question!
With our 35-year modelling industry presence, our expert modelling enthusiasts know which qualities clients tend to look for. They are:
* Diverse and inclusive models of all ages, body shapes and ethnicities.
* A versatile portfolio showcasing different poses and expressions.
* Up-to-date measurements and any significant changes in appearance.
Curious to learn on and off set.
* Every day people who are confident in who they are.
* Openness & honesty in how it’s going – pre assignment, during and post assignment.
* Impeccable punctuality (but should there be anything that hinders this, then communicating it as soon as possible with our team and the client is essential.)
* Being able to take feedback and work with it positively
Needless to say, this isn’t an extensive list of unachievable factors that clients are examining for. The first thing that our registered Models Direct models need to know is that their ePortfolio is an essential modelling document which demonstrates all-around skills in one place. This is even before the client attempts to connect with them for further material, such as a reel or casting call.
We cannot emphasise the importance of keeping your ePortfolio refreshed on a regular basis. This doesn’t mean populating it with images, but including quality, well-thought-out pictures which may showcase the latest fashion trends or seasonal themes. Don’t worry, though. Having previous experience is handy, but it’s not a necessity and certainly not something that will compromise your chances of landing a modelling gig with a renowned client.
