Are you a fitness fanatic or a sports enthusiast?

Then perhaps the niche areas of fitness and sports modelling might be for you!
In an industry that is opening up and welcoming more and more everyday models, fitness and sports modelling are perhaps niche areas that look for very particular people.
It will come as no surprise that to be a fitness or sports model, you have to look the part.
That isn’t to say that all fitness or sports models must be especially toned, muscly or even bulky…
But you do need to look like you could conceivably be taking part in the activity you are promoting.
Sports and fitness modelling tends to promote products such as exercise footwear and clothing, food and drink products, gyms, classes and health clubs and sports accessories.
Our clients operating within this field approach us for male and female models to pose wearing their outfits or to be filmed pretending to use their equipment or sipping their sports drinks.
In recent years, we have seen a surge in demand for sports and fitness models.
The growing trend for keeping fit and improving our health has seen an explosion in products, services and other commercial opportunities within the sector.
It therefore goes without saying that all these brands require models to help them showcase their products and services and get their messages out there to the consuming general public.
Most sports and fitness models will also work within other areas – they may well also be lifestyle, commercial or fashion models, for example.
And by making themselves available across the board, they are, of course, casting their net wider and improving their chances of being selected for work.
But anyone interested in being included in shortlists sent to our clients for consideration for sports and fitness shoots in particular should follow certain steps:
1. Get fit
You have to accept the reality that fitness and sports models have to appear to be genuine participants. Therefore, unless they are people who naturally look like they are very active, they will be required to be fit. If you are interested in this type of modelling but don’t fit the bill, then you must either be realistic about whether it is for you or start focusing on improving your health.
2. Join the right agency
You will need the right representation to be a sports or fitness model. Make sure you join a reliable, genuine, government-accredited agency, such as Models Direct, that does take on this niche modelling work. We have a long history of working within this field and know exactly what our clients are looking for. We put the right people forward for the right jobs – and we therefore see results.
3. Upload the right photographs
You don’t need to have professionally taken photographs but we will need to see the right photographs. If you want to be considered for sports and fitness modelling work, we need to see pictures of you modelling sportswear and looking active as you throw a ball, hold a racquet or lift some weights, for example. Upload some of these pictures with your application form.
4. Update your e-portfolio

Your e-portfolio is the window to your modelling career. This is what we and our clients look at when seeking models for assignments. If you want to make it onto a sports or fitness modelling shortlist with the potential of being selected, then we need to see recent pictures of you looking the part. It would not go down well with a client if we sent a model along to a sports shoot based on very old images of someone looking very fit, but on arrival at the booking, it was clear this was no longer the case.
5. Talk to us
Once you have applied to join us, we can discuss sports and fitness modelling, as well as other forms of modelling, with you. We can go into more detail about what is required, tell you more about the clients we work with in this field and discuss the kinds of assignments you might be put forward to. Our experienced agents are always happy to give you advice.
Those interested in this type of modelling should also peruse our review pages to see exactly what our male and female models enjoy about it.
Grace, for example, took part in a shoot for Rhynd Fitness and told us afterwards:
“It was an amazing experience – everything went very smoothly from the get-go, with clear booking details and instructions given by Gemma in advance.
“On the day, everyone was super welcoming and made it a very comfortable and fun experience.
“I was able to have a laugh with the team and other models.
“Another great experience through Models Direct!”
And Rosie modelled for Hull Kingston Rovers.
She said:
“I had a really enjoyable shoot for a new sportswear brand today.
“The team behind the shoot was so lovely and made me feel very welcome and at ease.
“The shoot ran smoothly and efficiently and we finished exactly on time.
“We even got to choose some sportswear items to keep as a thank you.
“The before and aftercare by Models Direct was great, ensuring I had all the information I needed and then checking to make sure everything had gone to plan. I felt very supported.
“Overall, it was a positive experience.”
