Both work experience and a new career can mean fantastic things are yet to come. However, what about if you have no work experience but are looking for a new career?

It’s a tough one because we know that so many brands and companies are calling for previous work experience and want a minimum of one to two years in their industry. This is fair because they want their vacancy filled by someone who is competent and who knows exactly what they’re doing.
However, this can be a bit unrealistic from the candidate’s perspective. The job market isn’t peak at the moment, where the total estimated vacancies are down by 99,000 (12.0%) in August to October 2025, decreasing in 16 out of 18 sectors according to the Office of National Statistics.
There is one profession our UK-based modelling agency is well versed in, and it’s, of course, modelling. Models Direct knows that when talent signs up with us, they don’t need any previous modelling experience. We know it’s tough out there, so why make it even more difficult for interested folk?

Research other models
Whether these are your fav iconic supermodels of the past and present or influencers who are modelling, our advice would be to follow them on socials. You can focus on how they carry themselves, where they’re going to maximise their exposure as a model and what latest trends they’re following or setting. This will give you deeper insight into how successful models are staying on top of their modelling game. You never know, you might be inspired to try out their iconic look, expression, pose or just have fun with it all and take it in your stride as a newbie getting ready to take on the modelling industry.
Practise your poses and expressions
Ah, that good old recommendation which will never cease to be mentioned in our blogs because it’s *so* important! Poses and expressions are everything! Practise in front of the mirror, in front of your camera, in front of your friends and family (if you want!), indoors or outdoors in the new season. You’ll find some that feel more comfy and natural than others. It’s your thing, so you do what feels right for you. Your body will remember, and eventually it will be muscle memory.
Learn a new skill
Modelling doesn’t just have to be about modelling! It can entail showcasing other skills such as acting, singing, dancing or playing an instrument (or all of these!). And if you don’t have anything you think you could share with the world, then maybe it’s time to learn a new skill. Clients will be curious to know what interests you, even if you haven’t acquired it proficiently.
