There are very few areas in which children and adults can work together – but modelling is one of them.
Before we begin looking into family modelling, it is essential to state that, of course, there are very few areas in which children should be allowed to work at all.
And it is right that very rigid legislation exists as to how, when and where they should be permitted to do so.
Modelling, like theatre, television and entertainment, is one of just a handful of industries where youngsters can be employed, if carefully overseen, chaperoned and managed.
Whether you are therefore considering putting your little one forward for child modelling, acting or extras’ roles – or whether you are thinking about family modelling – we would always suggest joining a reputable agency.
With a history of over 35 years in the business, plus regular inspections from the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy (BEIS), government-regulated Models Direct has a clear understanding of the rules and regulations surrounding child modelling.
We also vet every new client, investigate every assignment we send our models out on, and ensure the care, safety and well-being of every single person on our team.
So, that explained, what makes family modelling a great way for parents and children to work together?

1 It is great fun
First and foremost, family modelling doesn’t feel like work! Very often, our clients book our family models for photo and film shoots where they want them to look like they are having fun. And that is exactly what happens! The children get to play with toys, try out activities and have truly memorable experiences, such as visiting exciting family attractions.
2 It involves quality time
In this modern world, where everything is often so hectic and busy, family modelling gives parents and children the opportunity to spend quality time together. For a few hours, for a day or even for a few days, they get to make the most of each other’s company as they all do something they really enjoy and have probably never done before.
3 It is a learning experience
Family modelling can be a great opportunity for adults and children to gain knowledge and new skills. Not only do they all learn more about the modelling industry, but they may well also find out more about camerawork, filming, advertising, entertainment or fashion, for example. It really depends on the assignment. Modelling introduces people of all ages to worlds they didn’t know much about before. This eye-opening experience will not only help the youngsters as they grow up and think about their own careers, but it may well also be valuable to the adults in their working lives. In addition, of course, modelling helps family members of all ages to build their confidence.
4 It brings additional income
Family modelling isn’t going to turn you into a millionaire but it will give you a little extra income – and, of course, that is always welcome. It might contribute to that day out you have all been looking forward to, that extra special Christmas you have been planning or that new television or games console you have all been longing for…
To find out more about how the parents and children in our family modelling groups find working together, why not read the feedback they give us after their assignments?
But, for a flavour of what they think, this is what the Burton family told us after their photo shoot for Santander:
“Yet again another fab day on an assignment for Models Direct.
“We have had a brilliant day on our photo shoot for a pensions brochure.
“Meqele, Ben and Simon all looked after us really well and made the day so much fun.
“We started our day in a home environment, baking and having fun in and around the house.
“We then moved on to the Battersea Park Zoo, the kids thought it was amazing, especially feeding and petting the animals.
“We finished off with ice cream and playing ball in Battersea Park.
“What a fun-filled day, very tiring but lots of fun. A big thanks to Marie from Models Direct for putting us forward for the job.
“We look forward to more adventures soon.”
