It has been a long time coming and the industry is still not quite where we want it to be – but brands, labels and comapnies are increasingly featuring models with disabilities.

And Models Direct could not be happier!

Diversity and inclusion have always been part of the very DNA of our agency and we have always worked hard to promote and celebrate the individuality of all our male, female and child models.

Our models with disabilities have always shined bright and now we are more thrilled than ever to seen our clients choosing them on a regular basis to take part in their shoots.

Remember our little child model Noah who was born with spina bifida and selected to star in a Christmas commercial for Sainsbury’s?

His mum Shelley told us:

“Watching Noah’s face light up when the cameras started rolling and when he placed the star on top of the Christmas tree really was priceless.”

And then there was Darin, who was left paralysed from the waist down following an incident in 1998, and flew to Spain to take part in a shoot for wheelchair manufacturer Invacare.

On his return he said:

“We completed the work successfully and everyone was happy and I believe we did a brilliant job.

“I found it interesting and the team was amazing – very friendly, polite and easy to work with.”

Well, we are thrilled to say that disabled modelling success stories like these are now far more common.

This is because more and more brands are approaching us to request models with disabilities for all sorts of campaigns, promotions and advertisements.

Clients like ours – who number among them some of the best-known names in the world – are waking up to the realisation that we want to see real members of the public promoting the products and services we buy.

Looking to hire models?

This means people of all ages, looks, sizes, body shapes, heritages and abilities.

And there is absolutely no reason at all why someone with a disability should not be featured with other individuals on television, in a social media campaign or in any other publicity material.

In addition, we also have clients who specifically request models with disabilities because they want to accurately reflect the people they work with and for.

One such regular client of ours is the Business Disability Forum, which regularly seeks to employ models with disabilities through our agency.

Loreen attended one such shoot and told us afterwards:

“The people I worked with at the photoshoot were very nice and welcoming.

“They put me at ease and as a result I was very comfortable.

“Models Direct made the whole process enjoyable Gemma was very attentive.

“It was a very positive experience overall.”

And Alex said:

“I signed up Models Direct for a laugh and never realised I’d actually get a job modelling.

“I had my first job as a model for Business Disability Forum.

“Being a wheelchair-user I felt really nervous as I had no experience within this industry.

“Lexy made me feel welcome from the moment I got to the shoot explaining what would happen throughout the day.

“The shoot felt very relaxed and I couldn’t have asked for a better first experience.

“I look forward to my next job.”
