Times have changed – modelling isn’t about being a certain height or having a particular look anymore.
Men, women and children of any size, shape or height can model these days…
And that could be you!
It is true that in the past female models have had to be tall, willowy and – some might even say – excessively slim.
But this is no longer the case.
And over recent decades, the industry has seen an evolution in male modelling too.
Where male models would once have also had to be tall – perhaps also muscular and with so-called chiselled good looks – they are now also much more realistically representative of members of the public.
And this is what is at the very heart of the change we have seen…
Nowadays, the vast majority of all models are required to look like real people – people like you, me and everyone else we know!
Clients come to agencies such as Models Direct asking for models to help them out with their promotions and campaigns, with the aim of tempting the average consumer to spend.
And who is the average consumer?
Well, largely people like you, me and everyone else we know!
Some lifestyle modelling is, of course, aspirational.
We still see supermodels and celebrities modelling for luxury brands, such as perfumes, designer clothing and jewellery.
And these kinds of ads appeal to our dreams and aspirations, tempting us to splash out so we can experience just a hint of what we perceive the rich and famous to have.
But mostly these days advertising focuses on much more everyday products – the clothes, shoes, food products and daily services we all use regularly.
And the advertisers therefore want genuine-looking families to promote the household products, foodstuffs and clothes we spend money on every week, as well as the holidays, flights and special meals we like to treat ourselves to every now and again.
For those keen to try modelling, therefore, the opportunities are out there, regardless of height, size and appearance.
To model, you do have to be confident enough to act or pose in front of other people – and to perform as required for the camera.
Those who make great models are also friendly, relaxed and eager to learn.
But if you think you can do this, then you should not worry about whether your appearance is right.
There is no right or wrong these days.
And you only have to read the huge variety of reviews we have from the many different-looking models on our books to see how true this is.
You can also follow us on social media and read our blogs to gain more of an insight into the assignments our models accept and the diversity of all those who are on our books.
